I have had the good fortune of being interviewed by Marion for a Backstory piece that was printed in our local paper. Not only did she make it a great experience but her interview resulted in an energized public wanting to connect with my bookstore. Readers praised the article and enjoyed learning more about us. Marion’s questions were excellent at getting interesting and unique details that made the interview special.
I want to share a positive experience I have had over the past month with Neville Park Press, building my businesses in the Beach.
On September 19, 2026, late in the day, Neville Park Press published the backstory of the Beach Solar Laundromat and Monk’s Fine Fabric Care. You can find my story on NPP’s website under Beach Tapestry Threads. The full transcript of the interview is linked in the second paragraph of the article.
Here are the growth results for Monk’s, comparing 2026 data over 2025, demonstrated by Percentage Change:
Sales (new work brought to shop)
Jan 1 - Sep 19: +6.1%
Sep 20 - Oct 19: +16.3%
Revenue (work collected and paid for)
Jan 1 - Sep 19: +6.1%
Sep 20 - Oct 19: +12.5%
2026 had been running at a 6.1% growth rate over 2025. Sales and Revenue accelerated dramatically after the back story was published. Revenue growth lags Sales growth for the month, due to a buildup on our racks of completed work during the month. That completed work is being picked up and paid for. I don’t expect bad collectibles to rise.
I don’t know of any other change in my business or service offering that would account for this growth.
In support of a strong Beach business community, I suggest considering whether publishing your backstory would serve you.
I found Editor Marion Wyse of NPP to be very easy to work with.

Marion tutored me for several years and provided invaluable knowledge about professional writing. Throughout high school she taught me important skills that empowered me to succeed and be confident in English classes, including literary analysis and academic-style communication. At university level, her academic experiences were highly relevant to me, addressing the critical aspects valued in admissions for undergraduate and graduate studies. I recommend her to anyone seeking improvement in writing and communication for an academic setting or for general applications.
When I met Marion of Neville Park Press, I mentioned I'd worked on an undergrad degree but hadn't taken courses for years. She bluntly asked 'Why not?' to which there was no reasonable answer. Next day I reinstated my U of T credentials & am closing in on graduation. During this period Marion has been supportive with encouraging insights into that world, drawing on her academic, writing & publishing background. Having her in one’s corner is a definite asset.
